So this is the Soundcore Boom go 3i, and this is genuinely a very impressive speaker and its a great option if you’re looking for something to take on a hike with you, cause not only does this speaker sound good, and it has a long battery life, but it also has extra features that genuinely makes it very versatile to take it on hikes with you. Nonetheless, today we’re going to checkout the Soundcore Boom Go 3i and lets see if its right for you, cause even if you’re not going to take it hiking, its still a great speaker for anyone.
Regarding pricing, the Soundcore Boom GO 3i has a retail price of $80, not bad at all cause the speaker is undercutting a lot of other similar speakers out there. However this speaker is already going on sale for $60, which I feel is very impressive. So first there’s the design of this speakers, now the Soundcore Boom Go 3i is a puck shaped speaker. Its a little larger than the Bose Soundlink Micro 2, but overall this is a small and portable Bluetooth speaker. But more importantly, just like the Boom 3i, the Boom Go 3i is a very durable speaker. Now this entire body is plastic… but this is a very thick and very dense plastic. So even though the Boom Go 3i might not look or feel as premium as the Bose and its silicon body, or the Clip 5 and its fabric body… the Boom Go 3i feels super durable. Which I feel is more important. So bumps and scrapes are not going to be an issue for this speaker and the Boom Go 3i is rocking an IP68 rating, meaning that its both dust and water proof. However, unlike the Boom 3i, the Boom Go 3i doesn’t float up right, so you can’t still listen to your music while in a pool like you can with the Boom 3i.
But more importantly, the Boom 3i has a built in strap. Now this strap does have some elasticity to it, so you can easily attach this speaker to lets say your bikes handle bars or your back pack straps… but more importantly, this strap also feel strudy, so here’s hoping that this strap doesn’t rip on you easily after some wear and tear. But another thing that I like about this strap is that you can use it in two different positions, so if you want you can also use it as a loop and hang it from something. But overall, I am very impressed at how durable and versatile this speaker is, its a great option for the outdoors cause you don’t have to worry about it breaking, but its also versatile cause you can attach it to something very easily. Just keep in mind that with this speaker, you can only lay it flat, there is no standup mode unless you get creative.
But something that really caught me by surprise with this speaker was the light feature. I didn’t expect a light feature on a speaker of this size and price. But it has one, and the important thing is, it actually looks good, you can actually see it, and it can be useful if you want. Now though Soundcore’s app you can choose from a few different lighting modes. And you can also customize these light modes to your liking. But what I like about this light feature is that it also has an SOS mode, or just a constant red blinking mode. And I think this is great for any jogger or bike rider cause not only are you going to be able to show people where you are while at night… again thanks to the strap, you can attach this speaker anywhere you want. So I think just having that extra versatility is very nice…
However, if you decide to use the light feature on this speaker, that is going to take its toll on the battery life. Now the soundcore Boom Go 3i has an advertised battery life of 24 hours… which I feel is great, but that with this speaker playing wit the light feature turned off, with the volume set to 50% and with the bass up feature turned on. Which I do feel is fair, cause 50% volume on this speaker is a decent volume… and bass up means you’re going to get a good amount of bass.
And soundcore claims that if you were to use this speaker with the light feature feature turned on, and at max volume and with bass up turned on, its going to be good for 6 hours of playback time, which again is very impressive. And with my real world use with this speaker playing at 75% volume, and with the light turned on, and with the bass up turned on, I’ve been getting 12 hours of playback time.
But also, this speaker has an eco mode… now eco mode is going to turn off your light feature and its going to lower your bass… but at 50% volume, its going to be good for up to 40 hours. So overall, battery life on this speaker really varies, but its still very impressive for its compact size, plus its super durable… and they even managed to squeeze in a decent light feature, its important to say decent light feature… cause there are some other speakers out there with pointless light features. JBL Grip, JBL Boombox 4.
But a feature that caught me completely by surprise, cause this isn’t something that you see on speakers of this size, is that you can use this USB C port to charge your own devices. Now this speaker isn’t going to be able to fully charge your iPhone… but if you need an emergency 50%, then the Soundcore Boom Go 3i can help with that. So again, this speakers is a great versatile option for someone looking for something to hike with. Cause not only do you have your light feature so people can see you, you have an emergency battery bank.
However, this USB C port is used strictly for charging, you can’t use this USB C port as a wired connection, which honestly I don’t care on a speaker of this size, but you can use this speaker and charge your phone at the same time.
Now when it comes to bluetooth connectivity, this speaker can be connected to any two devices at the same time, so you and a friend can both be DJ and latency is not an issue for this speakers so you can use it to watch videos with on your phone.
But with all of that out of the way, lets talk about sound. When it comes to speaker up, the Soudncore Boom Go 3i is fairly standard. It has a frontward firing driver and passive radiators that shoot out the front and back. Now for the best sound quality you do want to use this speaker with its bass up turned on cause you’re going to get the most dynamic sound coming out of this speakers. You can also use it with bass up turned off which is going to reduce your bass and then there’s Eco mode which is going to also reduce your bass and turn off your lights. Now I think this speaker sounds best with its stock EQ, but you can also go into soundcore’s app and adjust its EQ to you liking. But now we’re going to jump into the soundtest, we’re going to cycle between the 3 different mode and this is speaker is playing at 75% volume.
So overall, I think this speaker sounds pretty well balanced for its size. The Boom Go 3i has a decent kick in its bass to satiate more people giving its size, but it also puts a good emphasis on the mids so vocals are well pronounced. But keep in mind, since the Boom Go 3i doesn’t have a built in tweeter like lets say the Boom 3i, the instrument separation on the this speaker isn’t going to be as good. But overall, this is a good sounding speaker that will easily get the job done. But more importantly, the Soundcore Boom Go 3i gets decently loud for its size, and at max volume its going to be good for like a 4 person get together, or more realistically, you’re going to be able to easily hear your music if you’re riding your bike with the speaker on your handle bars. And max volume on this speaker is very important to take into consideration with this speaker, cause if we were to look at lets say the Bose Soundlink micro… you have to use this speaker at max volume all of the time.
But finally lets talk about paring this speaker up with other speakers. Now the Soundcore Boom Go 3i is using auracast… so if you have another Boom Go 3i you can pair them up and get them to play in left and right stereo mode… or you can pair it up to any other auracast speakers and get them to play in sync.
But sadly, since the Boom Go 3i is using auracast, you can’t pair it up to soundcore speakers that are using Partycast like lets say the Soundcore Boom 3i, or the Boom 2 or Boom 2 Plus. So if you’re already invested in Soundcore’s eco system, this is a draw back. And even though auracast is supposed to work with any other auracast speaker out there… I haven’t been able to pair my Soundcore Boom Go 3i with any of my JBL speakers. I don’t know what’s going on, but I do wish that I could pair up my Boom Go 3i with my Boom 3i, cause both of these are great durable options.
But with all of that being said, the Soundcore Boom Go 3i is a very impressive and verstialte speaker. It sounds good and its get decently loud for both its size and escpially its price. But this speaker does a lot more than just play music. The battery life on this speaker is super impressive, and even at max volume and with the light feature turned on, its going to be good for 6 hours, which means its can keep up with you all day on a single charge. But if you need it, you can use it as an emergency battery bank. The light feature on this speaker looks surprisingly good, but its also useful cause you can use it to notify people where you are at night. Which is great for bike riders or hikers. This speaker is also super durable and portable and you can easily attach it to something. Overall the Soundcore Boom Go 3i is a very versatile speaker, and it gives you a big bang for your buck. I just wish that you could sync it up with the Soundcore Boom 3i.
