So over the last few months Soundcore have been releasing their new Motion family of speakers. And for the most part, I like these speakers, they sound good and they look very elegant. But personally I would hate to take either the Motion X600 or Motion X500 on the go with me cause I would hate to get their metal bodies scratched. But now, Soundcore have released their new Boom 2 which gives you a lot of sound at a much more affordable price, I feel that its easier to travel with this speaker, plus theres a decent light feature as well. So lets see what the Soundcore Boom 2 is all about and lets see if this is the must have speaker for summer 2024.

Regarding pricing, the soundcore boom 2 has a retail price of $130 which I feel is an incredible price cause you’re getting a lot of sound out of this speaker. Yes, the Soundcore Boom 2 isn’t perfect and it does have its draw backs… but I feel that this is a solid speaker to pick up at $130 so if you want to pick this speaker up it’ll be linked down below or you can always press on the YouTube shopping button.

Now first theres the design of this speaker. The Boom 2 is around the same size as lets say the JBL Xtreme 3 or Sony XG300 except significantly thinner and its also lighter weighing in at just 3.6 pounds. Plus this speaker also has a built in carrying handle so taking the Boom 2 on the go with you either the to the park or beach is very easy. Now when it comes to durability, the Boom 2 is IPX7 rated meaning that this speaker is water proof and it floats, so if you throw it in the pool, or more realistically, if it gets wet in the rain its going to be perfectly fine. However, in order for this speaker to be as affordable as it is soundcore did have to compromise on the body of this speaker. The Boom 2 has a mostly plastic body all around but it still has a metal face plate, unlike your more premium speakers like lets say the JBL Xtreme 3 or Sony XG300 which have fabric wrapped bodies. So with the Boom 2, this speaker and its plastic body is more likely to collect scratches, but the important is the boom 2 is still very durable and given this speaker’s price point I would feel as bad as scratching this speaker up as lets say the Xtreme 3 or even Motion X600.

But also, the Boom 2 has a built in light feature thats tucked away in the passive radiators. And from Soundcore’s app you can choose from a few different lighting modes and you can also customize the color of this light feature as well. And personally I like this light feature cause it it fairly dynamic but also its very bright, so this light feature also does a decent job of illuminating the ground around it at night.

So if you want a light feature, its there. Just keep in ming that if you do decide to use the light feature on this speaker that is going to take an additional toll on the battery life. Now when it comes to the battery life on this speaker, the Boom 2 has an advertised battery life of 24 hours, which is very impressive. However this advertised battery life of 24 hours is with this speaker playing at 50% volume, with the light feature turned off and with it bass up feature turned off as well.

Real world use with this speaker playing at 80% volume, with the light feature turned on and with the Bass up feature turned on, im getting about 6 hours of playback time. Its decent but it is a little lower than the real world battery life that you would see on your more premium speakers, but nonetheless the Soundcore Boom 2 has a decent built in battery life. And if you want to extend the batter life of this speaker you can always use it with its light feature turned off and or with its bass up feature turned off as well.

And when it comes to charging this speaker, the Boom 2 charges via a USB C port as it should. But also, the boom 2 does have a USB A port so that you can charge your own devices. Now personally I think that its great and all that this speaker has a built in USB A port, but I don't think that this port is going to get use all that much cause most phones these days now come with USB C to USB C charging cables and unfortunalty you cant use the USB C port on this speaker to charge your own devices.

And also, the Boom 2 does not have an audio jack so you cant use this speaker with a wired connection. You can only use this speaker wirelessly. But more importantly this speaker can be connected to 2 devices at the same time so that you and a friend can both be DJ and latency is not an issue for this speaker so you can use it to watch videos with on your phone. And when it comes to audio codecs, the Boom 2 has support for both SBC and AAC which is perfectly fine.

But with all of that out of the way lets talk about sound. Regarding speaker set up the Boom 2 has a frontward firing Subwoofer, flanked by dual frontward firing tweeters and dual passive radiators that shoot out the sides. And in general the Boom 2 does have a fairly unique speaker set up. But the really important thing here is that the Boom 2 gets very loud for its price, and you can also customize your EQ through Soundcore’s app. You can either select from a few made EQ’s or you can make your own. And regardless of what EQ youre using you can always add the bass up feature on top of it as well. But now we’re going to jump into the sound test, the boom 2 is playing at 87% volume and we’re going to be using the signature EQ with both the Bass up turned on and off and we’re also going to be using the voice up eq as well.

So first lets talk about bass up on this speaker, if you want to get the best sound of of this speaker and if you want to get to most amount of bass out of this speaker regardless of what EQ setting you’re using, you want to use the bass up feature on this speaker so that it sounds the fullest. However if you do decide to use the bass up feature on this speaker, it is going to drain the battery life faster. Now in general I think the Boom 2 sounds balanced while its in is signature EQ, however if you want a brighter sound signature you can always use it while its in its voice EQ or you can always make your own EQ. But when it comes to the overall performance of this speaker, the boom 2 get very loud considering its price, making it a great value, max volume wise. And most importantly, at max volume distortion isn’t a problem for this speaker. But when it comes to overall sound quality, the boom 2 sounds good with well defined highs thanks to the tweeters and it also has good lows thanks to the dual passive radiators and frontward firing subwoofer. However when it comes to the mids on this speaker, the definition isn’t the greatest. But overall I think the Boom 2 preforms very well sound quality wise because it gets impressively loud, and its bass kicks a lot as well. And for an outdoors speaker that you plan to take on the go with you, I think thats what most important for a speaker like this one.

But finally lets talk about pairing this speaker up with other speakers. Now with the Boom 2, if you have another boom 2 you can wirelessly pair it up to another boom 2 and get them to play in left and right stereo mode. So you’re music is going to get louder and its going to sound more open cause you’re going to have one speaker for your left channel and another for your right channel. However, I cant help but notice that these speakers aren’t perfectly synced, I feel like one is a few milli seconds behind the other so your music can sound a little off… but it sounds good enough to get the job done.

But also, the Boom 2 has Partycast 2.0 so you can always sync it up to out soundcore speakers that are also using Partycast 2.0 and you can pair up to 100 speakers together. But unfortunately you can not connect your Soundcore Boom 2 to lets say a Soundcore Motion X600, X500 or to a 300 or 100 which are the ones that I currently have in the studio.

But with all of that being said, personally I am pleasantly surprised by the Soundcore Boom 2 because it is an affordably priced speaker that gives you a lot of sound, it also has a decent looking light feature, and its very portable as well, making it a great option to consider if you’re looking for a speaker to take on the go with you this summer 2024. The only thing to keep in ming about the Boom 2 is that if you use it with its bass up feature turned on and with its light feature turned on that is going to take a considerable toll on the battery life. But besides that, I think the Soundcore Boom 2 is a solid pick up and honestly it was a pleasant surprise.
